Decimation or "No More Mutants"

Does anyone who follows the inside scoop know if this "No More Mutants" is a permanent thing? I certainly hope it isn't. I think the whole storyline sucks. In the attempt to fix something that had gone too far, they went too far in the other direction. I'm hoping a balancing act is somewhere close down the line. "John Byrne to the rescue!" is my rallying cry.

Marvel SAYS it's permanent, but then again it's just a matter of if they want to keep it that way.

Iceman lost his powers and then got them back, so that didn't stick. If he could do it, then so could other mutants...

...like Quicksilver and Callisto. I've been reading Son of M, and Quicksilver is planning to return the powers that all those mutants lost by using the Inhuman's Terrigen Mists to restore them. Quicksilver can now time travel forward in tme about a week and return to the point which he left, and take inanimate objects with him. He restored Callisto's powers of heightened senses to such a degree that she could feel ANYTHING (raindrops, fingernails growing), and it would hurt her; unless this is a secondary mutuation or I don't know my X-Men lore, I thought Callisto's powers had to do with camoflauge.

I've seen a preview cover of an upcoming New Avengers with Magneto on it...

Everything Marvel has said makes it seem like it's permanent. But then again, what does permanent mean in a situation like this? I'm guessing there will be new mutants, old mutants will fight to get their powers back or any powers in some cases, and a great deal of attention will be paid whenever either of those things happen. This will of course generate many different stories, which is exactly what Marvel wanted. Also, there were FAR too many mutants. Before Decimation there were literally millions of mutants in the world. Humanity had every right to fear them, because that many superpowered beings could conquer the planet in a matter of days if they wanted to. The whole persecuted minority angle was starting to lose credibilty. Not that a minority of millions can't persecuted, just the part where so many of them seemed to think there was nothing they could do about it. There are 198 now (give or take) but in year there will probably be twice as many, which is fine. I just hope they never reach into the millions again.

Infidel always nice to see new blood post, but im afraid i disagree strongly with your point of view. It has always been my sense that marvel does TRY an evolve things in a fast way, not to fast for me, but usually so fast they often switch results 4 or 5 times in a story arch. Marvel's best two soultions to any problem have always been umm what character or characters can we kill off to fix this or stir up interest. As opposed to taking a character they have an own for damn near 60 years and tell something MEANINGFUL, or to develop the character for the long hual USING the short term. Or they simply reboot the character's and the team, i think Alpha Flight was re launced 4x, Xmen a good 2 or 3, Hell even the supposed Flagship Avengers was redone again and again. Here is my point For the love of God pick a direction and go, don't bring them all back in a year or ten, make your universe Vary and remember you actually have people like Dr Strange, Doom, the Hulk, Silver Surfer, Thor ( whenever the jerks bring him back), and others to involve in these HUGE epics. As my pal Jimez has said here a few times we who have read them for a good 20 years have seen plotlines WE followed given up on, New one's made for EVERY new hack who can last 5 months, or simply forgotten about. Im just a fan, i don't own Marvel stock, i don't get residual's on each film or toy. I do however Love the universe i began to read almost 25 years ago, i have seen many good changes and evolvements. I however have seen TEN times more bad. Its the fan's that make any company from food to comics, movies to sports. All we ask who have read Marvel and love Marvel is please remember to ask yourselves this question before you write the latest greatest chapter in this year's book. "Is this something that evolves are charcter to the next level?" and "Does this make it a better story?" if the answer is truly yes then we who love the brand will deal with whatever decesion they make. However if they asked these questions Magneto would not have been good an bad 6times, Jean Grey killed and brought back 3x, Professor X betraying his team only to lead them again and again as if nothing has happened, ill say about 3x, and thats just the Xmen. Please again Marvel all we ask is that you give a dman for the long term, as much as your sales and exposure in the short term
      a fans 2 cents

what he said. only like even more so. some things the House of Ideas does are just baffiling....
Its so funny sometimes how completely UNIMAGINATIVE Marv can b sometimes with these revamp/reboots/re-works...
I totally agree its done way too often with no REAL thought to doing something interesting, or to bring about cool, charecter driven changes and developments in individual charecters, it's often 2 'start over' 2 allow 'new' readers to have 'some place' to 'jump on'...........

        Hate that.

As to HOW, well...there have been a lot of storms out in the desert (I wanna say Oklahoma, but watch me be wrong and it's actually Nevada). The FF (AND Dr. Doom, who already knows what's there!) go to investigate. And there they find Thor's hammer, and Doom wants it. Ultimately no one can lift it, so it's just sitting there right now in the desert.

Meanwhile, there's a guy who's making a trip out west. The funny thing about this guy is his luggage has the initials "D.B." on them...Donald Blake?

While I'm a loyal Marvel fan, and truly enjoy their work, I think that they need to include a narrow focus in their planning.

They've got the overall view well done, but they just throw around individual chartacters like nothing. They care for the development of their universe, but not the characters in it. Keeping in mind the overall view, i think, they need to then go in and plan how best to grow each individual character in the story.

They forget that the characters are the heart and soul of the universe they've created.

That's partly why I'm a fan of the Ultimate line of comics. They actually build characters, not universes.

Edward any fan of thor is a friend of mine lol :), however of the ultimate universe im torn. As its just a re telling of characters for a new generation, its nothing more then a glorified "what if" brand to me, however the sad part is for the most part its been better and more character driven then there "real" counterparts. I just would like as a fan, for the awsome staff of writers and artists to do work on the "real" characters that matter and that have been around, instead of write awsome stories about new takes on old characters, lol i just wish they would of just worked on the old an stop trying to re sell it in new wrapping, but one can only hope. I do (while not liking it) give Marvel TONS of credit on trying to evolve spidy with a new costume, and new take on his powers an origin. For while even tho i don't like it i give 100 Kuddos to them for at least trying, i only hope they stick it out, and take such a new approach to Thor, the Xmen, and Avengers to name my more favorite of Marvel titles, as im tired of the same old same old, but its just this comic whore's opinion lol.

I'm surprised, Michael, to see that, even after having read some (all?) of the Ultimate line, you still see it as a glorified "what if". For me, it is as stand-up and stand-alone from the mainstream Marvel U, as the film franchise. I really enjoy the new takes on things in the Ultimate U. Longshot, one of my favourite Marvel characters, is not simply a bad guy in the Ultimate U, he's seriously villianous. And the Ultimates! OMG. If you ever wondered what the Authority would be like in the Marvel U, well, here it is.

As for "the awesome staff of writers and artists" working on the "real" characters: well, that has happened, and the Marvel U has been decimated as a result.
