Classic vs. Ultimate

Any versions of characters that you would prefer one over the other?

Examples:

Millar had Sabretooth get his head chopped off (and his 'nads stabbed) by Wolverine in the Return to Weapon X storyline, so I'm assuming he has to be dead. If so, what a waste.

Making Proteus the son of Moira McTaggart and Professor X in the Ultimate continuity streamlines his origin a little bit, but it totally removes Kevin's father from the classic continuity from the equation. Also, Ultimate Proteus is like a combination of classic Proteus and Legion.

Never like Sabretooth and was glad he was dispensed with in Ultimate World.

I agree regarding Proteus. The absorption of the father really made the character.

No real preferences, for me. I am partial to Ultimate Dazzler.

I can't believe that Sabretooth would be dead. He's Wolverine's arch nemesis. He'll come back. I have no preference of Ultimate or The Classic version though.

I do however (despite what I've read in other posts) really like Ultimate Sinister as opposed to Classic. I think the classic version was kind of lame. He had good points, but this makes him interesting I think.

Ultimate Dazzler is definately cooler, but only because of times. She'll be a dated Ultimate character 20 years from now, just like classic Dazzler.

I liked the Proteus arc too.

Classic. Claremont was a great story teller..and helped to develop each character, and succeeded in delivering Rogue from the brotherhood of evil to the Xmen.

How do you guys regard Claremont's writing for Uncanny now? Do you think that he still has the talent but things around him have changed too much (the..."X-pansion" of the X-universe), or that maybe he's frustrated with the way that Marvel is run now(these last few issues of his, I'm sorry to say, are terrible compared to what I've read of the classic stuff--the Mojo storyline ended horribly)?

        I think "a mess is a mess"....
Marvel got greedy and screwed everything up, (too many titles, to many non-comforming characters).
After a decade of character chaos..they bring him back to clean everything up.
How can one guy undo what a decade+ of crappy writers/editors have put into place?

I think he's trying to clean up crap..and maybe establish some new storieslines.
Whether he's successful...is up in the air. Being handed someone else's storylines and trying to finish them off..isnt the best way to re-enter a cult favorite.

Hopefully we will see some great stories aries in as Claremont re-establishes his X-men.
But then again ...he could be on crack now! lol

Have you guys been reading his X-Men: The End trilogy? Parts of it are a little questionable and he tends to throw so many mutants at you at once that it's difficult to figure out who's who, but there have been some really neat parts throughout it. Kitty's running for public office, Callisto got offed, and Gambit finds out that his father is...whoops, that'd be telling.

But then again, this is a What If? type of story. Some of this may carry over to the current books (like Wolverine & Storm dating).

I don't know if it will carry into the current x-books, but rumor is that the Logan/Ororo relationship subplot will at least carry into the upcoming X3 movie next year.

In the books its fair enough given how long the two have worked together yet I think if they did go through with this in the movie it may feel a bit *forced* and hard to believe. But we shall see.

Oh, and I prefer the classic continuity to the Ultimate. It's a bit of a mess but I'm one of those hopefuls that still thinks things will get better soon.
