Have we found out what happened to Prof. X since House of M? Could someone fill me in?

Re: prof x
Wed, May 10, 2006 - 7:35 PMYou are in luck. I just got the last issue of Deadly Genesis today. Xavier resurfaced at the end of last month's issue without his powers...again. After it is revealed about some of the mind-manipulating that Xavier did in this mini series (which, if you're not reading this, expands on the events of Giant-Size X-Men #1 with Krakoa and answers Sinister's comment about a third Summers brother), and Cyclops tells the professor he is no longer welcome at the mansion.
Oh, and it dawned on me about half an hour after I read it: he's walking...again. -

Re: prof x
Wed, May 10, 2006 - 10:36 PMI have said it before and ill say it agin here now, can someone please tell me why Marvel things updating character's and storyline's mean either a stupid relaunch, killing them off, or changing them so fundementally different then how they should be we who read and loved them for 30+ years cannot even recognize them. I have and will always prefer Marvel to Dc comics, but am a fan of both, yet somehow Dc manages too pass the torch, age their charcters, and have meaningful stories that still allow for G R A D U A L change and allow us too still follow them with an eye on the past and seeing in some cases the future ( if Dick Grayson does not become Batman in like 5 years ill scream lol). In marvel i have seen My favorite charcter (Thor) be killed off an forgotten, i have seen Magneto an Xavier evolve only to either become again old arch types ( I get the Martin Luther King v.s Malcom X thing) now either switch them, evolve them, or simply MOVE ON, but no its easier to smash them, chnage their costume or kill em. I am not a huge Spider Man fan and never will be but Kuddos to them for TRYING to evolve the charcter through making his origin more mystical, making new badies, and making the charcter become more, and yet less all at once. If Cyclops (ol old eye :) becomes the New Xavier, if some Xman leave and follow Xavier for his years of love an Guidance, if the X universe actually evolves, changes, and becomes better then ill accept this ruining of THE FOUNDING Figure in all things X, however knowing marvel in 1 year all this will be a "dream", get put back so all mutants have power, or Jean Grey for the 13th time? Will re order the universe, and ill yet again be sick over what could of been. An say can all my fellow Marvel fans help me with one thing?? Why is it in EVERY SINGLE Huge Mrvel event they TRY and sell us on are Mrvel's most powerful charcters either conviently either not around, forgotten, or just not shown ( id say Hulk, Thor, Silver Surfer, Black Bolt ( i mean comeon he can't talk or earth shakes supposedly, Doctor Strange (when marvel remembers magic exisits in the marv universe), and Doom. Always gone or always unwritten and why why why???
Ok Long over due Rant over
My Thanks and My Apology -

Re: prof x
Fri, May 12, 2006 - 1:18 PMCivil War is looking solid but again will it stick, will any of this shit mean a dman thing a year from now or ten, otherwise i feel like im wasting my time, reading and caring about events that never seem to stick, add history or add depth. An im still waiting for one of my comic breatheren to address my first post and tell me why Marvel makes sure all the heavy hitters are never around when the "big mega event of THAT year" happens, and why they suck so bad compared to Dc ( for the most part) at passing the torch, and making their heroes age, and evolve. An yes having said all that ill always prefer Marvel, which just frustrates me even more :(. -

Mon, May 15, 2006 - 1:49 PMGreatly appreciate your rant, Michael. I couldn't tell you the why's or wherefore's, though. I'm just as frustrated and disgusted with the whole thing. I just may stop reading Marvel altogether. Nothing has disappointed me as much as this House of M debacle. -

Re: prof x
Tue, May 16, 2006 - 8:38 PMJamez i have been there so many times before, i choose to cut back instead of walk away all together, i just get about 12 titles now combined 8 marvel, 4 d.c. I felt like why let some jerks who won't even be here 7 years from now stop me from loving what i do. Sad thing is i liked the House of M's initial premise and some of the parts where Cap tells Logan well we need people like you so it doesn't happen again, seeing them argue Wanda's fate an all was a good start, but i feel like the end will prove a cop out as i cannot see Marvel eliminating their cash cow (mutants) to only 109 now. However if they made it stuck and made characters grow and change as a result id be inclined more to be open minded, but as i said i fear this will only be a ploy to make mutants rule again, or allow for the usual marvel quick fix :(.

Re: prof x
Mon, May 22, 2006 - 8:40 AMTo Michael who so strongly believes that Marvel does not know how to evolve, I must say that I disagree. I'm new to this tribe and do not mean any disrespect, I just have a very different view on this. Marvel has always been about trying to evolve their characters. They move forward constantly. Some of these evolutions have been gradual while some are sudden, but usually it has been about character development. Granted, there are times when some writer decides that some idiotic change would be "so cool" and no one has the good sense to stop him, but that's almost the exception not the rule. Marvel tries to evolve their characters all the time, just as people evolve constantly. The thing is, that it does not always work. Maybe a change came too soon, or was poorly recieved by fans who want the character to never change. Sometimes a change was perfect and made sense, but the next writer decides that he wants to make his own changes and things can get rather muddled.
As for DC, your comments honestly baffle me. The characters at DC more often than not chage slowly because the company has a long history of being resistant to change. Most of their "new" ideas and storylines are about "bringing the character back to its root" or restoring the "iconic" version. This idea pops up even when the character is already at its "iconic" ideal. Also changes in DC are far less likely to stick, and less likely to stick aorund for very long. Changes in DC are more gradual because they're harder to make happen.
More often DC looks to the past while Marvel looks to the future. When Marvel looks to shake things up they seem to ask "What will generate interest, promote strong character development, and actually be remembered years from now?" When DC looks to shake things up they seem to ask "What won't upset the fan base too much, won't change the character too much, and still invokes what people thought was good abut the character years ago?" These are the differences as I see them. Maybe you prefer your character development to be hard won? If so that is fine for you. Personally, if it makes sense and is a good story, then bring on the changes.
As for Professor X himself? It seems that whenever he doesn't have his powers he can walk, so that's not even new. Losing his powers makes sense since the Scarlet Witch (who is responsible for the depowering) would blame him among others for her anguish. Deadly Genesis is not the first time it's been revealed that Prof has been keeping secrets, and Scoot had every reason to be pissed. Honestly it al makes sense and is entertaining.
I'm sorry that this all proceeds at too quick a pace for you but that's just how Marvel does it. Honestly, there was a time that I disliked character changes, but hen I realized that I had been with these characters so long, that I had started to lose perspective. Maybe you just need to step back for a moment and look at them again with fresh eyes.
Damn that's a long post... Sorry about that... -

Re: prof x
Tue, May 23, 2006 - 7:50 PMHonestly i have to say, at least in recent history, for me marvels' all encompassing' , "the Marvel universe will NEVER be the same" (for the 400th time this season...) huge story arcs are just about totally NON-charecter driven, imho.......
Mayb i'm jaded -but so often i just stop collecting for a lil while until i can go back to being able to follow a fave group or charecter WITHOUT having to buy four seven issue mini-series..., 3 OTHER running titles that are now ALSO in the atory arc, as well as god only knows how many 1 shots, or 'conclusion' issues.....
Every once in awhile is exciting, once every other month is directionless......
imho... lol -

Re: prof x
Wed, May 31, 2006 - 10:34 AMI kinda like the big shake-ups. It's the cheap cop-outs that I don't like. How many God-like entities does it take to fix a messed up universe? again?
They simply need to come up with more creative ways to fix the issues that arise from these events without hailing back to some seudo-god who got pissed off at the change of scenery.
If they can't think of something new, then they should learn to live with the consequences of the giant events.
example:
I loved the Onslaught event. But was Heroes Reborn a cop-out or what? Nessesary? Perhaps. But ridiculously contrived. -

Re: prof x
Wed, May 31, 2006 - 5:09 PMI think Onslaught was one of the worst, if not the worst, of the so-called events. But, as you've said in another thread, "To each his own." -

Re: prof x
Wed, May 31, 2006 - 6:51 PMWell, Prof X does need some growth- it's good to know he has some secrets and a life. It sems they can only keep him around until they shunt him off again to the Shi'ar or some such.
I don't get so upset over big cross overs and I know that they won't last too long, but I think mostly that's because writers need some freedom to explore and not feel confined to 30 other author's rules. I have been annoyed with some people's handling of the X-Men or just the callous disregard for another author's ideas - like when Nova ROma was all just a hoax- why?
I also must say I am annoyed at Civil War because it is a story that has been done repeatedly most recently in the X-men movie and the X-men comic in THE 80's with the Mutant Registration Act- again in the 90's in the Xmen book with the Freedom Forces and Valerie Cooper. C'mon! -

Re: prof x
Thu, June 1, 2006 - 2:42 PMI was waivering on whether to check out Civil War or not, but you just convinced me to skip it, Dean. I and my wallet, thank you.
I was also really disappointed in the Nova Roma thing. And poor Amara. Her character is more pissed upon than Peter Parker.
