I keep wondering about that lasting effects of the cure. Leech's mutant power of negating other mutant's powers or their physical appearance due to their mutation was shown to have taken effect only when one was within a close proximity to him. Then the mani point that is made by Hank McCoy is that the cure surpresses the mutant gene permanently. Now Mystique gets shot with the cure and turns back into Raven as a homosapien( I don't answer to my slave name. That's a great line, isn't it). Rogue takes the cure and is able to touch again w/o having her powers drain the lifeforce. But after Magneto gets the cure, you see him at the end of the movie sensing something inside himself and then you see the chess piece slightly move. Suddenly the cure doesn't appear so permanent.
I have heard a couple of theories. One is that Magneto was such a powerful mutant that the cure did not completely strip him of his powers, that they just lay dormant for awhile. Plausable theory but I don't think so. Another idea is that the injection of the cure, just like being in close proximity to Leech was only temporary. It's like an injection of anything else. It runs it's course thru the bloodstream and then loses it's effect over time. Also interesting theory. One that seems to makes sense to me. But who knows really? All I know is that Rogue better get busy before her powers come back and Mystique...well I could do a whole other posting on her. But I imagine she's a little pissed off at Erik. Comments/opinions welcome. What do you think?

Re: Powers Lost Forever?
Sun, November 5, 2006 - 11:55 PM...erm... seems kind of a moot discussion, considering no sequel is planned. Your logic does seem sound, however. Pity we'll never find out. -

Re: Powers Lost Forever?
Wed, January 17, 2007 - 5:04 PMI guess it would depend on the mechanism of action of the "cure". If it's "vaccine-like", then I guess it's feasible that the loss if forever, and Erik's somehow "resistant" to the vaccine. Maybe his X-gen is slightly different (it's called polymorphism) than other mutants. This is the case in people naturally resistant to some viruses, such as HIV. On the other hand, if it is "drug-like", its effects would eventually wear out, and at a different rate for each mutant. To mess things up a bit more, my theory is that it's "virus-like", with a viral RNA containing a sequence of DNA that targets and binds the X-factor, destroying the mutant DNA by the action of enzymes called DNAses. If that was the case, it would be a permanent loss since theparts of the chromosomes corresponding to the X-factor wouldn't be replicated; but eventually this cure would prove fatal because there is another process called recombination that would be messed up, causing normal (non-X) genes to rearrange in a defective manner, causing cancer or something worse.
I really think Marvel and DC should hire some real scientists to advise on these things, don't you agree? -
