When did you start reading X-Men?

topic posted Mon, August 9, 2004 - 8:57 PM by  Mr Gumby
I started way back in the day, old 1986 with issue 194. I was going through my old issues and decided to reread them all. Why? 2 reasons. One, cause it's a good idea, and two, beacuse I don't remember the little datails anymore and that makes me sad.

So I have 1986 to 1995, when I stopped comics all together for nearly 8 years.

It was around issue 180. I immediately started collecting back issues and went back to about 160. I also got the Dark Phoenix graphic novel and read that, so I am familiar with that storyline. I stopped collecting X-Men when the new title came out. Just started checking it all out again.

    Boom

in the 6th grade. 19 years ago. I got five discount issues for a dollar. I remember two of them were the storyline with Gulath Khan (or however you spell his name)

My first issue was the one where Rachel first came back. JRJR was the penciller, I think.

My read my first X-Men issue(s) in 1972, when my uncle cleaned out his comic collection and gave me all of his X-men (#4-70!) I was a bit confused by the reprints ( I was 8 years old) but I fell in love with the story. The very first issue I read featured Magneto and the introduction of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants!

I started reading at a bad time when I really think about it. #247 when Rogue and Mastermold were blasted through the Seige Perilous. The following issues Storm "died", Longshot left, Polaris got her powers stolen, the X-Men also went through the Seige Perilous to escape the Reavers, and then Wolverine was crucified (which was arguably the best front cover that Uncanny ever had). It was so depressing but I couldn't stop reading it. I had to find out what happened next.

So I'd say I read X-Men from 89 up until 1995 or whenever that whole Age Of Apocalypse thing was over...

Hard to remember, because I've read stories from earlier than when I started. It was the original team; before the first (?) giant-size with the Trask Sentinels. I want to say something to do with Sauron, but I could easily be getting my order mixed up. I was pretty well hooked from that Sentinels giant-size though; that's what I remember best from that era.

the first issue I read was in seventh or eighth grade, little Ilyana Rasputin was with the Xmen and she fell into Limbo. Then I missed a couple of issues, and then the Xmen had met the Morlocks and Kitty was marrying Caliban and Storm was fighting Callisto.

Hi! I just joined this tribe. I have been a fan of the Xmen for over twenty years. It was hard to keep up when all the different titles started popping up. So now I collect comic art books and graphic novels, while browsing at the bookstore and keeping up on the main story line. As for the movies, I like them for the most part. Though I have to consider the movie storylines as a separate X-universe since they changed some major background info from the comic.

Nightcrawler is by far my favorite character followed by Storm and Rachel.

I look forward to reading the back posts and catching up. :)

I was a child (late 80s) and was going through my brother's closet when i found a trunk of old comics. There was like red sonja and conan and maybe elf quest and all that stuff... then I saw the uncanny xmen (it was an old one) and There was the man with the blue skin (nightcrawler) and the Black African woman with white hair who could call down lightening (storm)... hahahahahahahaha... Honey i fell in love but couldn't get to any more... later in the 90s (during the Jean Grey came back, the white queen is slaped into a coma, the hellions were destoryed and the here comes bishop years) I discovered my older cousin collected so i would save my allowance and he would take me to the comic shop with him: sometimes i would be able to read his old comics so i could catch up: he was a collector and kept them in plastic (one of the ones i loved best back then was the titans x men cross over)...

Started with Wonder Woman..., the Avengers... then tha Muties......

Think i started picking them up right before Jean went apeshyt..., had ALL the Byrne/Austin stuff....

Unfortunately ( don't know if i should admit this.....)- threw them ALL away, in a VERY misguided early teen bout of religous fervor.......

I deserve to be drawn and quartered, i know.

I was about 11 years old, and the concept of "mutant" as personage struck a chord with me. This was the point in time of my life when I started REALLY noticing how different from other peopleI was.
I must say, I AM PROUD TO BE A MUTANT!

bufff! I don't remember the numbering, because all my collection is... in Spanish! I started reading around the time Wolverine #1 (first series) came out. Those were the times of Rob Liefeld on X-Force and Claremont/ Lee launched X-men. I picked everything back to reissues of the initial 60s series... what I do remember is when I stopped, right after the Age of Apocalypse, when everything stopped being interesting to me in the X-men world.
My favourite saga will be the original Dark Phoenix saga, Jean Grey is my favourite all-time X-men (or women), and she was the star of the show for a brief spell... ahhh, those were the days...
