This came out roughly 2 years after I started reading comics; for me it was a blast, but for the wallet...well, X-stuff was all I read at that point anyway (and comics were relatively CHEAPER then!).
I lucked out on some of the #2 issues because a comic shop I was near had a sale on all their stuff, and I only paid half price for them when they came out. I went to my high school prom the night before I got all of the #4 issues and X-Men Omega...I read them after getting like 3 hours of sleep; fried my brain, but it was well worth it.
And if anyone is interested, Marvel is reprinting the ENTIRE story in chronological order throughout 4 volumes. Each volume's retail price is $29.99, but if you order through amazon.com and order $25 worth of stuff each one will cost $10 less. They also have the new AoA tpb (a mini series that came out last year, which...ehhh).
1. Favorite moments
2. Favorite writers/artists
3. Best covers
4. Best/worst characters

Thu, June 1, 2006 - 9:44 PM1. Blink vs. Holocaust, Nightcrawler teleporting Dead Man Wade's head off, Weapon X popping the claws out of the stump of his severed hand.
2. Warren Ellis wrote the X-Calibre series. It had a dark humor to it, and I liked the interactions between Nightcrawler and Mystique. Joe Madueria is one of the artists that I have liked the most since I started reading comics, and back then Roger Cruz's work was very good.
3. It seems like Marvel started using a lot more digital coloring by the #4 issues. The coloring on the covers at that point really stepped up a lot in quality.
4. I loved Holocaust's armor design; I don't really have an understanding of what his powers are, or what's happened to him since coming over to the regular Marvel universe. I found the Guthries interesting, and to my knowledge the size-changing girl has never been seen in the main continuity. This series gave new life to Blink (who actually debuted as part of the previous year's Phalanx Covenant crossover, and our version of her was presumed dead). I always wondered if Damask in X-Calibre was the AoA version of Psylocke, but after reading the new mini series she turns up there with her powers.
