Emma Frost seems like one of the divisive plotlines for fans of X-Men these days.
Personally, I think Cyclops getting together with Emma is a brilliant concept. Emma has such a distinct, strong personality, which completely clashes with that of Jean Grey. And yet somehow it totally fits that Cyclops would go for her. Their relationship as well as the tension is creates in the X-Men is very interesting to me.
However, there are questions. What is Emma's real motivation here?
So, a couple questions...
First, what is your opinion about this plotline and the introduction of Ms. Frost into the X-Men?
Second, what do you think the outcome will be?

Re: Frost
Wed, August 3, 2005 - 3:41 PMIt's interesting, unexpected and non-conformist. I like that. As for the outcome, I'm willing to just wait and see... though I imagine one day, some purist writer or editor will come along and reunite Scott & Jean. -

Re: Frost
Thu, August 4, 2005 - 12:33 AMShe was talking to...something at the end of the first Astonishing X-Men storyline (for everybody who did notice this, here's something to add on this: that nurse's kid Carter was talking to some kind of imaginary friend when they were leaving--I'm thinking the Shadow King here). Emma's using Cyclops to rule over the X-Men, until it's time to ditch them. -

Re: Frost
Thu, August 4, 2005 - 7:58 AMYou'd think Scott would've learned by now the concept of "patience". His girl Jean, has resurrected enough times to warrent her a massive religious following. Scott should be concentrating on the X-men, and if he gets horny, take care of it yourself.

Thu, August 4, 2005 - 10:43 AMOK,
I hear most people say that Emma is aligned with the Shadow King or some other baddie and will eventually make her move against the team.
BUT, wasn't it Prof X who invited her to join the X-Men? Is the greatest telepath on Earth getting duped here too?
Can somebody recap what happened to the Shadow King? Last I heard he was destroyed or imprisoned by Psylocke, who sacrificed her telepathy to do him in.

Re: Frost
Thu, August 4, 2005 - 3:55 PMI believe the Shadow King is a dangling plot thread in the resurrection of Psylocke scenario. Her telepathy was sacrificed/exchanged to imprison Farouk. If she used telepathy, he would be set free. What happened when she died? Was he set free, or did he die with her? The former is most likely, though I personally prefer the latter.
As far as with whom Emma and Carter were speaking, I had not made the connection between the two incidences. My first guest with Carter was that Malice was returning. I got the impression that his "friend" was female.
Still, Amahl Farouk does tie things up quite nicely.
As far as that whole "Scott learning patience" thing... well, first of all. He's demonstrated a great deal of restraint, if not patience, over the years. In New X-Men #150, Jean told him to let go. To live. So, that's what he's trying to do.
And would you keep letting the same guy come in and out of your life, over and over again? Sounds waaay too revolving door for me. If I were pscyche, I think I'd be burnt out on this whole "from the ashes thing" (no pun intended). -

Re: Frost
Sat, August 6, 2005 - 10:05 AMI always hear about Jean getting brought back all of these different times. . .
Now granted Im not the biggest X-Men fan around, but I was reading this article on them the other day, and hasn't Jean only died and been brought back 1 time for the Phoenix thing? If so, what's the big deal? -

Re: Frost
Mon, August 8, 2005 - 10:19 AMWhen she was originally transformed into the Phoenix, it turns out it wasn't Jean anymore. The Phoenix force made a copy of Jean's body, and preserved her original body in suspended animation in a coccoon at the bottom of the ocean. So the Phoenix that died was really the Phoenix, not Jean. Jean's rebirth wasn't really a rebirth but her original self coming out of stasis. She didn't remember anything she did as the Phoenix, of course, because it wasn't her. Eventually, the Phoenix force found Jean again. I suppose this time it didn't make a copy. The Jean that died fighting Magneto was really only dying for the first time.
Did anybody read the Endsong series? I thought the art was amazing. The story was pretty interesting, as well.

Re: Frost
Fri, August 19, 2005 - 8:07 PMI did. Very good.
See? What's the deal w/ Jean? I always hear people bitching about that, but she's only died and come back one time, and then it wasn't really that at all.

Re: Frost
Mon, August 22, 2005 - 10:50 AMI think Emma is a complex character. And the X-Men have a long history of generating richer characters with more depth by having their "heroes" and "villians" swap sides and perspectives over the years. Remember when Magneto was running the school and Xavier was off in Shi-Ar space?
Besides, I would imagine Emma has sort of done the "bad boy" thing to death.
What actually made less sense for me was Jean still being interested in him. If ever there was a case of "He's just not that into you" it's Scott and Jean. I think Scott wanted Jean as long as she was a weak "auxiliary" character, but lost interest in her every time she started to get more powerful and individuated.
And I really never liked him much after he ditched Madelyne and Nathan Christopher the nanosecond Jean was found alive. So much for his "straight arrow" character. Take that with his affair with Emma while married to Jean, and that whole Psylocke fixation he had years ago... Geez...What a self-righteous hypocrite.
Judging by Endsong, they'll probably bring Jean back, since it seems she and the Phoenix are and always were the same person. Whenever she buys it, she just goes to the White Hot Room and regenerates. What would be really interesting would be to see how confirmation that she is, in fact, basically immortal would play out. Which oddly, would make Wolverine a better match, since he's one hard-to-kill mofo who doesn't age. But I digress

Thu, September 1, 2005 - 1:33 PMCat's out.
Emma is working for the old Hellfire Club, Sebastian Shaw & co. Hopefully there will be a few more twists before this completely unravels. I would like to see Roberto DaCosta, the new Hellfire leader, involved in this story arc. Also, I can't wait to see more of Selene, the Black Queen. She rocks. I hope that Astonishing handles the Hellfire Club better than Uncanny did recently. It was another story arc that was told too quickly, with too many characters. That's what I love about Astonishing, they take their time to do it right. I mean, the whole story concept of Danger was kind of innane, but they way they told the story was brilliant and fun. More Hellfire would be good. We shall see...

Tue, September 6, 2005 - 7:00 AMSelene was first seen in New Mutants #9. She was the wife of a corrupt senator in Nova Roma by day. By night she killed girls in a ritual to keep herself young and beautiful over the centuries. What a biatch...
