Ok miracle of Miracle's an actual Marvel Fan is made head of all things Mutant, What direction do you take them in? You can make this as deep or as light as you care too, let us know your team or teams lol basicallyhave as much fun with this one as you can :) With any luck mayb someone at Marvel will read this lol :)
On that Note :)
I would not reboot in that shitty sense an start from scratch but i would simply reduce my xmen to 3 books an 3 books alone. The Xmen team would Cyke, Iceman, Angel, Beast,Jean Grey, Mimic and them only. Tons of Guest Stars but i would keep the team of all original members, and do a backstory on how Mimic became a Xman id ask Claremont to write it, and if he was incapeable id get Wheaton to write. Its Marvel so id get a top artist but id like Kubert or Silverstri in this dream :).
I would try an keep that book as Xavier's normal team, deal with classic Xmen theme's in hopefully classic but relevant ways ideally incorperating all the history with expanding it slowly an REALISTICALLY lol. Id use traditional villians her Magneto, Morlocks, Governemt, and the ol Avengers from time to time, but with Modern twists and building on the 50 year rich history.
My Uncanny Team would be ran by Storm, Wolvie, Nightcrawler,Colossus,Havok,Bishop,Banshee, and Cable and again them alone. For this group i would have them deal with new and dangerous villans, the Brood, Apocolypse, Shaw and the Hellfire Club, and Alien Cratures, and New Villans the staff slowly introduces. This would be the team that while under Xavier, would deal with those foes an issues that the "normal" or "old" Xmen simply were never equipped to deal with, and while they would keep with Xavier's theme of Living Together, it would be pushed to its furtherst point as Batman does when written best. Think of the old team as Superman, my new team as Batman. I would try an show how these "new" villans simply push the envelope, try an show the grey part of the Marvel Universe, and basically Make them your original Xmen's team you don't want to Fuck with. Ideally i would like George Perez to draw them and have Miller write this ad since this is my dream ill make that happen.
There would be no more solo books, and i would either simply have the remaining mutants people love show up in these books or in relevant Marvel books that would help a storyline... not simply sell Books.
I would give my writers an Artists the madate to read what came before, be knowledgeable an respectful, but to make there own nitche, and sign them to 5 year deals :p. Id ask them to write about the stories and issues they feel passionate about as it will show through thir work. And i would make sure that Mutants are not a Xmen exclusive and that other teams and other hero's tell stories involving them, and not any "crossover's" simply to sell books, story an only story is all i would preach. Thats a small taste of what i would do, now i can't wait to see what the rest have to say here :).

As most of you will be aware, the 1992 X-men cartoon is currently unavailable on DVD, and they don't seem to have it on schedule for publication anytime soon. I felt those X-men, albeit primitive and poorly animated, were very close to the classic X-men from the Claremont/ Byrne/ Cockrum era, so I really loved them, and have been looking for them for the longest (>5 years) time.
Apparently, there are a few companies that advertise the complete series in TV-like quality over the internet, so I thought... what the heck? And ordered one... and I got it! Six DVDs with all 76 episodes for 35$, with watchable image quality and good sound, even some extras. They are made with care, attention to detail and "finesse". If you're interested, this is the link:

www.imissmytvshow.com

I'm doing this because apparently other companies advertise this type of stuff, they take your money and you never get anything, so I wanted to state that this one is the real deal. These people are reliable and made me very happy I ordered from them. Enjoy!

I keep wondering about that lasting effects of the cure. Leech's mutant power of negating other mutant's powers or their physical appearance due to their mutation was shown to have taken effect only when one was within a close proximity to him. Then the mani point that is made by Hank McCoy is that the cure surpresses the mutant gene permanently. Now Mystique gets shot with the cure and turns back into Raven as a homosapien( I don't answer to my slave name. That's a great line, isn't it). Rogue takes the cure and is able to touch again w/o having her powers drain the lifeforce. But after Magneto gets the cure, you see him at the end of the movie sensing something inside himself and then you see the chess piece slightly move. Suddenly the cure doesn't appear so permanent.

I have heard a couple of theories. One is that Magneto was such a powerful mutant that the cure did not completely strip him of his powers, that they just lay dormant for awhile. Plausable theory but I don't think so. Another idea is that the injection of the cure, just like being in close proximity to Leech was only temporary. It's like an injection of anything else. It runs it's course thru the bloodstream and then loses it's effect over time. Also interesting theory. One that seems to makes sense to me. But who knows really? All I know is that Rogue better get busy before her powers come back and Mystique...well I could do a whole other posting on her. But I imagine she's a little pissed off at Erik. Comments/opinions welcome. What do you think?

Just thought id like to hear what those who follow Marvel's cast o muties thought, plus this gives Jamez a new post to answer aan vent on , lol never a bad thing :). Here is my 2 cents for what it's worth. Wolverine aside my favorite character after him was always Beast an Cyclops both for the same reasons, when written well they have such massive depth, Hank had the Ben Grim woe is me thing with his accident, plus he never gave in to that pain to much (whhen well written) he always used his intellect in a fight and could seriously whip some ass when he cut loose. Cyke was the leader but never the perfect leader like Ol Cap, he had issues with alot of teamates (namly the most famous Canadian mutie lol), a sibling rivalry, and a dark side just waited to come out, but i always felt he would do the right thing in the end, when the chips were down i wanted him on my final team.
Worst well this is so easy ill go both ways Worst "X Man" was easily Dazzler lame ass power, awful 70's suit, and really no depth what so ever, she is a mutant i hope marvel brings back alot... so i can keep seeing her die painfully :). Worst Xman villan agaon easy for me and thats Xavier, look here Marvel he is the founder of the Xman, he is your Martin Luther King Jr to Magneto's Malcom X why they insist on making him betray the xmen from time to time, or "merge" with others in that shitty ass onslought is beyond me. He is the founder, the father, the mentor, ruin that an you ruin alot of the xmen, change does not mean shiyt on all that has come before, leave him as the care taker, true beliver and stop making him a weak, whinny villan.
Underated was a tough one but seemed as i how i wussed out and took 2 for both my favorite an worst ill take the one that stands out the most. Cable he should be the baddest ass Xmen Ever..... Period its how Marvel brought him in, its how marvel wrote him,a nd drew him, to sum up he should be the only one whom most agree can take them out from wolverine, to captain America, to the Hulk. Son of the greatsest Xleader, A psion with few peers and from the future with gadgets, technology, and shiyt from star wars to blade runner he should be Chuck's Avenging angel. If they want me to buy that Xavier an Magneto fear Apocolypse so much they would join forces then the hero to bring him down better have no peer, alot of depth, and the need to always impress dear ol dad. Write him better, include him more often, and return him to his bad ass OMG its HIM!!! status .... then ban Rob Liefiled's cocky i draw once every 5 month's ass from every drawing him again :)
Thats My 2 Cents... What's Your's???

Deepak Chopra and Grant Morrison explore the social subconscious.

Thursday at the San Diego Comic-Con brought an intriguing collaboration. Grant Morrison and Deepak Chopra, having met for the first time the previous night, had a discussion about the role superheroes play in the social fabric.

A superhero is "symbolic expression of the social subconscious," according to Chopra. "The superhero is a mythological being" who exists "beyond outerspace and innerspace, creating a new idea of being."

Even deconstructing superheroes, a '90s movement fronted by the likes of Morrison, "comes from fear," according to the comics writer. "People are scared to be hopeful." And though writers and society pummeled Superman, he persevered and the core character survived for the new era of comics just now emerging.

Chopra suggested that the seven spiritual laws could mirror the seven chakras. "A Chakra is a junction point between consciousness and reality," Chopra explained before leading the audience through all seven.

"First chakra - Stability. Infinite centered awareness and dynamism.
Second chakra - Transformation. An absolute allegiance to transformation. Willingness not to have a permanent identity
Third - Power. Not in the sense of muscle, but in intention.
Fourth -- Love and compassion. Nothing better it is integrated with the rest of the Chakras.
Fifth - Creativity. Always creative solutions.
Sixth - Intuition.
Seventh - Transcendence."

The seven chakras can also be linked to the idea of seven gods, a theme that clearly parallels the seven main characters of the JLA.

"Look at the JLA," Morrison said. "They all map on the chakras. Batman is a human being of ultimate power [and intention.] Flash is communication. Superman is about giving selflessly He represents the sun. He is that thing that loves us unconditionally."

He added later that "Batman is like Christ harrowing Hell, because only he can withstand it. He endures everything for us. Batman is a character who was almost brought to the brink of his destruction," but who persevered. Batman is our shadow and "we have to look at the shadow and integrate the shadow [into our consciousness]."

And "yeah," Morrison admitted, Seven soldiers is an allegory to seven gods. "Mr. Miracle is the transcendent character," the seventh Chakra.

Superheroes are our new mythology. They are not so different from the Greek Gods, who were not as deeply seeded in religion as some may think. But what is mythology on a deeper level?

As Deepak Chopra asserts, a mythology "must address the collective consciousness in a certain archetypal way. It must offer an idealist vision to aspire [towards]." He added that, "a good story should never end and good guys should never win."

"There are six plots that people retell," Morrison said. "These stories are told again and again."

Myth is related to the word mother. As Chopra called it, "the womb of creation." Myth is not just hokey stories that explain why the sun rises and falls. That's a very simplistic view. To put it poetically, myths are where "we express our deepest longing and aspirations of collective being." Myth is a social experience beyond genetic codes or organized religions.

"The human story is about a quest, falling down, but getting up again," Chopra said. "Death and rebirth. It's about redeeming yourself and then redeeming others."

Our existence is still young in the eyes of the universe. "In many ways," Chopra said, "we are reaching puberty. There's a lot of curiosity, mistakes, risk-taking. But it is an exciting time." One full of possibilities, though there are certain to be some growing pains.

Chopra proposed that our current destructive nature may not mean the end of human existence. In fact, it could be part of the natural order of evolution. "The are no fossil records of the evolutionary transition between lizard and bird." It happened, but we have no true proof, just as we cannot find the missing link between ape and man. Chopra suggested that it is possible a species can experience a "creative quantum leap."

Think of a caterpillar. "A caterpillar consumes more than it needs to eat until it reaches a point where its body begins to decay and die. Imaginal cells cluster. The send communications to each other. The caterpillar is imagining a new entity. [The imaginal cells] use the dying carcass of the caterpillar to feed. A dormant gene awakens and the dying caterpillar becomes a butterfly, a completely new creature."

Now consider that "cloning, tinkering with the intelligence of the universe," are "ideas that existed in ancient mythologies." Yesterday's mythologies are today's science.

So think of our modern myths. Think of the superhero. "Look at destruction of environment," Morrison said. Look at what has become of our world and our society. "We are the imaginal cells."

Chopra put it plainly. "Superheroes may be a prelude to an actual leap in our evolution," as our social conscious has the knowledge of the possibility of flight and other incredible, superhuman feats.

I lucked out on some of the #2 issues because a comic shop I was near had a sale on all their stuff, and I only paid half price for them when they came out. I went to my high school prom the night before I got all of the #4 issues and X-Men Omega...I read them after getting like 3 hours of sleep; fried my brain, but it was well worth it.

And if anyone is interested, Marvel is reprinting the ENTIRE story in chronological order throughout 4 volumes. Each volume's retail price is $29.99, but if you order through amazon.com and order $25 worth of stuff each one will cost $10 less. They also have the new AoA tpb (a mini series that came out last year, which...ehhh).

I have been following the news about the upcoming X-Men film closely, however I am still a bit perplexed if the character of Emma Frost (White Queen) will be in X3 or not. There was mention of her being cast, but I don't know how official that was. (The actress who was reputed to play Stacy X is now confirmed in the role of Arclight.) Even if it is a small but significant cameo, I will be happy. I remember her role in the Dark Phoenix storyline which I read as a kid, so I will be a bit disappointed if she does not show up in X3. How could Callisto get such a big role, but there is no White Queen? Does anyone know if her character is confirmed?

I own a VHS copy of Pryde of the X-Men, which I really need to dig out and watch again (it's probably been 8 years since I've watched it). Sigh...Australian Wolverine...

90's X-Men is when I actually started reading comics, and this series helped me get into it. The great thing about this cartoon is it could give newbies to the X-Men universe condensed versions of classic X-stories and make transition to reading the comics easier. I liked both of the Phoenix sagas (including Wolverine getting to kick some ass!). Some differences in character's origins and appearances of the comic and cartoon were confusing to me when I started reading, but I eventually got caught up on them.

I haven't watched a lot of X-Men Evolution because I could never figure out when it was on. One thing I just never liked about the series was how there were only two or three X-Men were adults and all the rest were teens. I liked how toward the end of the series that all of the X-Men and the Brotherhood had to work together and defeat Apocalypse's Four Horsemen, comprised of Xavier, Magneto, Mystique,and...I don't remember who. Mystique's shapeshifting powers were amped up to where she morphed into a flock of bats (or birds...something that flew, I dunno).

I read New X-Men #16

Ever notice that everytime the X-Universe does an alternate reality storyline they always bring back Ilyanna? I saw her in Exiles, Age Of Apocalypse, Shattershot and the Cross-Time Caper. I was excited the first few times but this time around in House Of M, Magik's return has left me cold.

In House Of M we are given a world where all the characters are given their heart's desire. For Magneto that means he rules the world and there are no X-Men to oppose him. So... if there are no X-Men then they never had to go fight him on his island in the Bermuda triangle. And since they were never on that island, Ilyanna was never there to fall through that portal into Belasco's Limbo where she grew into a young teenager as his apprentice until she freed herself. She also never would have forged the soulsword.

Yet here she is in House Of M as a teenager complete with sword and no explanation of how this happened. I talked this over with a friend and he argued that perhaps it was Peter's heart's desire to have his family back. While I can agree that this is something Peter would want, it also seems to me that he would want the younger version of his sister that never suffered those years in Belasco's realm. As a matter of fact I find it hard to believe that any X-character who endured Inferno would wish for an Ilyanna with any ties to Limbo.

I want to believe they will address this in a panel or two in future issues but understandably there is a bigger story that needs to be told. It just feels so cheap this time around that I'd rather they had never bothered to bring her back at all if they weren't going to do it right.

I suppose none of this will matter once House Of M is over anyway...

Personally, I think Cyclops getting together with Emma is a brilliant concept. Emma has such a distinct, strong personality, which completely clashes with that of Jean Grey. And yet somehow it totally fits that Cyclops would go for her. Their relationship as well as the tension is creates in the X-Men is very interesting to me.

However, there are questions. What is Emma's real motivation here?

So, a couple questions...

First, what is your opinion about this plotline and the introduction of Ms. Frost into the X-Men?

Second, what do you think the outcome will be?

Making Proteus the son of Moira McTaggart and Professor X in the Ultimate continuity streamlines his origin a little bit, but it totally removes Kevin's father from the classic continuity from the equation. Also, Ultimate Proteus is like a combination of classic Proteus and Legion.

It does not feel like 10 years ago...but it is.

Marvel had a one-shot come out last week, which had some short stories in it. One was Colossus leaving the X-Men to form Generation Next, and there's the story of how Sabretooth meets Wildchild. The last two stories lead into the new AoA mini series, one being Weapon X runs into the Silver Samurai and the other being the aftermath of the final battle with Apocalypse (I'm not giving away the spoiler of a certain someone who didn't die *hint: it ain't Apocalypse*). It's got 4 pages of pinups by artists who did the books 10 years ago including the Kubert bros., Roger Cruz, and Tony Daniel.

The 6-issue mini series is running weekly, and continues from the last 2 stories in the one shot.

There will be an Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe AoA special coming out Mar. 30.

Exiles is supposed to have a 2-part tie in. I see covers right now that have Holocaust on the cover.

The biggest thing to note is that Marvel is releasing the ENTIRE AoA story in at least 4 TPB's.

The first trade, scheduled for release on Mar. 30 has the following issues collected:

X-Men Chronicles #1 & 2 (X-Men Unlimited)
Tales from the AoA: By the Light (I think it's the one-shot with the AoA versions of the Inhumans)
X-Man -1 (the flashback issue where his creation was revealed)
X-Man '96 annual
Tales from the AoA: Sinister Bloodline (Factor-X one-shot)
Blink #1-4

By the looks of it, the trades are going to be the comprehensive AoA story collection. The first trade retails for about $30. If you REALLY wanna save some money, amazon.com's got a good deal on the first trade for about $20.

Xavier preaches peace and tolerance, and Magneto believes that (quoting his old toy that talked) "Mutants must rule". At Illyana Rasputin's funeral (Colossus' sister) Magneto controlled the iron in everyone's blood, keeping them from moving--there were like 60 X-Men present, and he could kill them all in one fell swoop. Ironic thing about him that makes him a tragic figure is that he is a Jew who ultimately became the thing he hated most: a dictator along the lines of Hitler. Then Grant Morrison went and f'ed him up royally, making him into a junkie. You suck, Grant Morrison! The sooner you get off New X-Men the better.

I'm kind of working my way backwards to read the X-Men stories of the 70's-90's, but right off the top of my head I'll go with the death of Colossus; he gave his life to destroy the virus that killed his sister Illyana and countless other mutants around the world. Over the course of nearly 30 years he was the powerhouse of the X-Men. He gave and he gave and he gave, all while his own flesh and blood died around him. In the end he died so that others may live.
